This year's Summer Coffee is a delightful and fruity lot of berry-dried coffee from the northwestern part of Peru. The renowned coffee region of Cajamarca is nestled in the mighty Andes mountains. The region is part of a protected forest reserve with abundant wildlife and wild vegetation, where only naturally produced fertilizer is used.

Damian is a second-generation coffee farmer and has been producing coffee since 2002. On his Finca La Palma, he grows Bourbon and Caturra. He was inspired to cultivate specialty coffee after one of his neighbors won a coffee competition. This bore fruit, and in 2018, Damian placed 2nd in the Cup Of Excellence.

Peru is a country that has been on our radar since we first visited and fell in love with it in 2012. There is access to many fantastic coffee lots here, but it was previously not possible to find micro-lots with traceability down to individual farms.

Origin Coffee Lab is a young company based in Cajamarca. Established by Alex Julca and José Rivera, also known as Pepe, who are from the area and know it well. Alex grew up on a coffee farm and has extensive experience as a cupper, having worked with quality control for one of the largest cooperatives in the region. Pepe is the son of a coffee exporter and spent most of his childhood at a dry mill. He also brings expertise in roasting, having worked for several well-established coffee roasters in the States.
